BARB-ER wound closure is a revolutionary technology that closes wounds securely without the need to tie knots. Till now, it was essential to secure the suture with a preliminary knot. BARB-E makes this step superfluous. The end of the suture is welded into a stable loop. At first glance, this is only a small modification, however, it saves the surgeon time and eliminates the need for an extra hand. A further decisive advantage lies in the minute detail: the
thread is equipped with unidirectional barbs at regular intervals. Inspired by nature, these delicate points of resistance increase efficacy and safety. Tension is evenly distributed over the whole suture, thereby achieving increased closure safety. BARB-E is a monofilament polydioxanone thread having 60% retention in 14 days and complete absorption in 180-210 days. BARB-E is also offered in combination with the tried-and-trusted suture material MASSO, with both Unidirectional and Bi-directional barbs.
Advantages over Conventional Sutures
• No change in surgical technique
• Saves time
• No need for an extra hand
• Less material required
• More evenly distributed tension, more easily controlled
• Prevents knot complications and infections
• More Security - more strength and security compared to interrupted suturing, without knot-related complications
• More Consistency - more consistent tension control and approximation during closure
• More Efficiency - more efficient than continuous or interrupted suturing
Indications
BARB-ER absorbable barbed suture is indicated for soft tissue an approximation where the use or absorbable suture is appropriate.
Indicated in Laparoscopy, Plastic Surgery, and Urogynaecology.
Barb Design
BARB-E® suture design utilizes a dual-angle cut that creates strong anchoring barbs while maintaining the strand's integrity.
BARB-E"- Superior Dual-angle Cut
Lower-cut angle produces barbs with strong anchoring force and the shallow cut depth preserves the integrity of the strand's strength.
Competing Sutures - Single-angle Cut
Higher-cut angle produces flimsy barbs and the deeper cut-depth results in the compromise of the strand's
strength.
Barbing Pattern
BARB-E suture design utilizes a barbing pattern that produces up to 2.5x the number of anchoring barbs as
single-angle cut sutures for greater barb holding strength.
